Gave in and got a Twitter, username fugitivus. I mostly signed up to reserve the username, and may not really be using it for much except to update when I’ve got a new entry. And, likely, to update something embarrassing and regretful whenever I’m drunk.
Anyway, if you’re one of those people, feel free to join up and watch me not understand what I’m doing.

OK, when I go to find you on Twitter, it says username ‘not found’. I’m thinking I have to go to Twitter school or something, because you said you signed up.

I have the same problem when trying to look up myself, but other people are somehow following me, though I can’t figure out how. Anybody else want to chime in? I know exactly nothing about Twitter.

I found it at:
But I typo’d it a couple of times before getting there.

Okay I might as well post a quick crash course for those just starting with the twittering (as I just signed up for yet another Twitter account).
If you want to not show up in the public timeline/feed set it to “protect my updates” in Settings.
To respond in public to another user use the @ sign like <– not full name, user name blag blah your message here. Or you can click the reply arrow.
If you want your post to be included for a new or "trending" topic it's best to use a "hashtag" like: #topicname, #ilikechapstick, #whatever to make it easier for the search engine.
You can use Direct Messaging (private and not in the main feed) if someone is both following you and you are following them.
Block is your friend. You may get some creepy fucks. They can still see your stuff if not private but can't direct message you.
To repost/retweet the usual convention is: RT originalmessage. You may have to get creative with the trimming to fit 140 characters.
You can add a custom pic and play with the backgrounnd, sometimes that shit is hella buggy though. For some reason it doesn't like images in gif format so use png or jpg.
Twitter ain't always so safe so you may want to set up a new free email account somewhere like gmail.
There are a ton of apps for twitter but I don't use them so don't know.

Viva, Thanks for the tip. It works, and I’m following. I think I’ll follow you on my cell, too.
Harriet, what a life. You’ve got a good following, already. Hitchcock, imo, is the best producer/director of ‘uncomfortable’ film, evah. But, since you’re into Asian Horror, I imagine Hitchcock is lite weight (metaphorically, speaking that is).
Couple of questions for you, and this seems the only open kind of post to do it. You’re a gamer, right? What’s the best game equipment, you know: Gameboy, Wiki, Play Station; and what’s a good game for a woman to play?
Thanks.

My boyfriend’s more of the gamer. I use the stuff he brings home, but left to my own devices, I probably wouldn’t end up purchasing any kind of gaming equipment. I liked a lot of the games for XBox (Fallout 3, Oblivion, Left4Dead, Portal to the max!) but found their interface increasingly more obnoxious. I didn’t care for 1) having to identify my gender, and then 2) having to make a dress-up doll using completely gendered clothing to identify myself to all users. That was pretty much the death-knell of the XBox for me.
I’m pretty happy with an NES emulator, really. The games are generally much harder, they don’t break the system because they’re so full of unnecessary graphics, and there’s massive nostalgia glee.
And to totally geek out on you, I’m pretty happy with no video games and role-playing instead. Every time I’ve been playing a game and gotten frustrated and gone, “Jesus Christ! I want to take this object and move it over here so I can do this thing with my character but it won’t let me and ARGH,” my bear helpfully points out that he can make me a campaign where I can do exactly that thing, and won’t have to wear an embarrassing leather bra to do it.

Short-time reader/lurker saying ‘Hello’ – which I usually don’t – because I’ve followed you on twitter. I usually don’t say hello because 1) I’m shy and you (the collective you of bloggers I read) are so much cooler than me. 2) I don’t usually have much to contribute toward the conversation but ‘thank you’; and while a thank you can be gratifying, you seem to get a lot of thank you’s and what’s one more?
However as twitter will actually let you know that I’m ‘following’ or ‘reading and paying attention to you, it suddenly seems a lot creepier not to say anything. So I’d rather say ‘Hi’ instead.

weird, did you look up Harriet Jacobs or Fugitivus?
I’m under mythago_esq so if you can find me, you should be able to get Harriet through my ‘following’ list.
